Thompsons supply ‘Batman’ tipper body to DJ Grab Services

Volvo tipper body

Waste-management firm chooses Loadmaster unit for strength, durability and flexibility

DJ Grab Services have taken delivery of a new Volvo FMX featuring a Thompsons tipper body with a ‘truly heroic’ livery specification. The new vehicle – given the name ‘Batman’ by DJ Grab owner Danny Gallen – joins a fleet founded on the simple philosophy of running Thompsons bodies on the best possible Volvo chassis.

‘Running tippers is a tough business,’ said Mr Gallen. ‘But it has to be a bit of fun as well. We want our business to be exceptional and recognized as such. The vehicle liveries help us to be a standout business, to differentiate us from the rest. We also build the very maximum specification into our trucks.

‘Our business depends upon us offering a high-quality service which is delivered reliably and efficiently, each day and everyday. That’s why we run the best possible vehicles.’

DJ Grab operate a 15-strong fleet that is standardized on Thompsons’ all-steel, double-skinned Loadmaster fitted with a hydraulic AutoLift operated tailgate. Under the tipper bodies and providing all of the company’s movement requirements is a Volvo FMX chassis fitted with a 13-litre, 540hp engine with I-Shift automatic gearbox.

The Batman tipper allows the crane to be operated from within the cab. This means for conventional side loading with a shovel, the crane can be raised out of the way without the driver having to leave the operator seat.

With the latest Thompsons truck now hard at work, DJ Grab have announced two further tipper bodies will be joining their fleet in the summer, featuring, once again, striking superhero liveries.
