S.R. Harradine Haulage mark 25 years with new Volvo FMX tipper
FMX 460 8x4 tipper replaces vehicle from rival marque for aggregate deliveries across east of England
CAMBRIDGESHIRE-based S.R. Harradine Haulage Ltd have continued their transition to Volvo Trucks, acquiring its latest model from the manufacturer – an FMX 460 8x4 tipper – which replaces a vehicle from a rival marque in the firm’s fleet.
Supplied by Volvo Truck and Bus Centre South & East, the new truck is mounted with ABBA Predator bodywork and sports a special livery to celebrate the company’s 25th anniversary.
Steve Harradine – who founded the business in 2000 with his wife Joan – said: ‘In our experience, Volvo Trucks are the only manufacturer left that we trust to do the job properly – I can sleep at night knowing whatever new Volvos we bring on the fleet will deliver us 10 years or more of solid service.
‘We need vehicles that can handle tough workloads, keep maintenance costs manageable, and retain value when it’s time to move them on. Volvo delivers on all those fronts. Their build quality gives me confidence that the truck will perform reliably for years, which is exactly what I expect when I commit to a purchase of this size.’
The Volvo FMX – built for the toughest conditions and most demanding assignments – is designed to give a superior combination of agility, visibility and durability, keeping the driver safe and comfortable.
S.R. Harradine Haulage’s tipper – built on a 5,100mm wheelbase – is powered by a Euro-VI-compliant Step-E diesel engine, producing 460hp and a peak torque of 2,300Nm. This is driven via a 12-speed automated I-Shift gearbox, which constantly evaluates information regarding speed, weight, road grade, and torque demand to apply precision to every shift.
The customer has opted to upgrade the rigid’s transmission with construction/off-road software, which aids manoeuvrability when starting from a standstill and driving at low speed.
The FMX day cab features a suspended driver’s seat with dual armrests, plus a media package with navigation to add a 12in fully dynamic instrument cluster with a secondary colour display and DAB radio.
Safety is boosted through Forward Collision Warning with advanced emergency braking, Lane Departure Support, Side Collision Avoidance Support, and Driver Alert Support systems. Visibility is aided through electrically heated and operated mirrors, rain-sensing windscreen wipers, and Volvo’s distinctive V-shaped LED headlights.
S.R. Harradine Haulage have also opted for Volvo’s X-High chassis to unlock additional ground clearance, crucial for the typical operating demands the truck will face day-to-day.
Joining a commercial vehicle fleet consisting of 30 trucks – of which 11 are now Volvo-supplied – the FMX will clock up to 100,000km annually, delivering aggregates five days a week to customers across the east of England.
S.R. Harradine Haulage provides muck-away services with grab-mounted and eight-wheeled trucks, plus aggregate deliveries from their recycling yard in Chatteris, just north of Cambridge.
