FM Conway unveil £11.2 million fleet investment

FM Conway invest in vehicle fleet

Latest vehicle purchases support firm’s focus on self-delivery of services and materials

INFRASTRUCTURE services company FM Conway have invested £11.2 million in their vehicle fleet, reflecting the firm’s ongoing focus on self-delivery of services and materials to secure cost and time efficiencies for customers.

The new purchases include 17 eight-wheel tippers and two six-wheel tipper vehicles, as well as five eight-wheel grab lorries and a new bitumen tanker to support FM Conway’s growing asphalt recovery and recycling operations in London and the south of England. The company’s liveried fleet now totals more than 800 vehicles.

The company has also invested in two 44-tonne walking-floor trailers and two 18-tonne pole lorries, to support its specialist lighting operations, as well as a CCTV equipment van for its gully cleansing division, which uses the mobile technology to carry out drain surveys and inspections.

FM Conway say the vehicle specifications reflect their ongoing commitment to promote road safety within the construction industry and the company has worked with its suppliers to adapt the vehicles with the safety of its drivers and other road users in mind.

New features include an extended window in the nearside door of the tipper trucks to improve drivers’ field of vision and make it easier for them to spot vulnerable road users such as pedestrians and cyclists. The tractor units also bring major safety benefits to workers and the public thanks to their non-tip design.

FM Conway’s transport manager, Peter Parle, said: ‘These new vehicles will support our focus on self-delivery, which is at the heart of our business. By delivering projects using our own in-house materials, plant and vehicle fleet, we cut costs and bring reliability for customers.

‘This fleet investment supports the growth of our asphalt recovery and recycling operations across London and the south of England as more and more customers recognize the benefits of this approach.’

Mr Parle added: ‘FM Conway strive to be at the forefront of road safety initiatives in the construction industry and these new vehicles have been specially designed to keep our drivers and other road users safe. All of our drivers will be taking part in one-to-one training to familiarize them with the new trucks and promote safer driving.’
