CEMEX named as Supplier Engagement Leader

CEMEX

Company recognized by CDP as global leader in supply chain carbon-reduction efforts

ENVIRONMENTAL non-profit organization CDP has named CEMEX a global leader in its Supplier Engagement Rating (SER). CDP awarded the company its top ‘A’ score for implementing best practices and successfully engaging its supply chain on climate change.

The SER evaluates Scope 3 emission objectives, company efforts to engage suppliers on climate action, and close monitoring of the supply chain, and CEMEX are part of a growing group of CDP supply chain members and SER leaders charting paths toward significant environmental action.

‘We are pleased with CDP’s recognition of our decarbonization efforts and happy to be part of this prestigious group of leaders in climate action,’ said Vicente Saiso, CEMEX vice-president of global sustainability. ‘It is further proof of our commitment to our goal of delivering only net-zero CO2 concrete by 2050.’

In the most recent reporting cycle, CDP (formerly known as the Carbon Disclosure Project) awarded CEMEX its highest rating for climate action leadership, including the company in its prestigious ‘A List.’

CDP recognized CEMEX for their actions to cut emissions, mitigate climate risks, and lead in the transition to a low-carbon economy, and highlighted the company’s efforts to ensure water security in the world.

Under their Future in Action programme, CEMEX have a climate action target to reduce their CO2 emissions by 40% by 2030. Additionally, the company is aiming to use 55% ‘clean’ electricity by 2030 (currently 29%). CEMEX say these intermediate goals are verified by SBTi under the well-below 2C scenario and will enable the company to fulfil its 2050 goal of being net-zero carbon in concrete.
