France welcomes its first Volvo L120 Electric wheel loader
New battery-powered loader delivers high performance, extended runtime, and rapid charging capabilities
ROGER Martin Group, who have recently celebrated their 130th anniversary, have taken delivery of France’s first Volvo L120 Electric wheel loader – an important milestone in the company’s ongoing shift towards more sustainable operations.
In a major step forward in the adoption of zero-emission construction equipment, the machine, delivered in collaboration with Volvo CE and longstanding dealer partner Kleber Malecot, marks a new chapter in how construction sites across France can reduce emissions without compromising productivity.
‘The deployment of France’s first L120 Electric marks a defining moment in our industry’s energy transition,’ said Davy Guillemard, president of Volvo CE France. ‘But this transition cannot happen alone – it relies on strong dealers, forward-looking energy partners, and customers whose choices set the pace of change.
‘This partnership shows that zero-emission equipment can deliver the performance, productivity, and reliability our customers expect. We are proud to support a partner like Roger Martin Group who are leading by example and confident this first machine will bring them long-term success.’
The move is another step in Roger Martin Group’s ongoing commitment to environmental progress. The group also seeks to maintain a forward-looking approach to new technologies that enhance productivity and strengthen the overall attractiveness of the Group.
At SABEVI-Bourgogne Béton, the L120 Electric has already demonstrated its capabilities in daily hopper-loading operations. The Group noted that the total cost of ownership (TCO) was a key factor in the decision to adopt the machine, reinforcing confidence in its long-term value.
Roger Martin Group’s strong commitment to sustainable development and proactive approach to innovation continue to guide their equipment choices. The L120 Electric supports these ambitions by providing zero tailpipe emissions, helping improve on-site air quality and significantly reduce noise levels, creating a more comfortable environment for operators and surrounding communities.
‘Nothing happens without strong partners,’ said Vincent Martin, president of Roger Martin Group. ‘I want to thank Volvo, and especially our dealer Kleber Malecot, for their trust and commitment. Investing in this electric machine is a sign of confidence in the future. Fully electric equipment won’t replace every machine overnight, but it is a vital part of the solution, and we are committed to leading this transition responsibly.’
The Roger Martin Group previously acquired one of France’s first ECR25 Electric mini-excavator models and continues to operate a varied fleet of Volvo wheel loaders, articulated haulers, excavators, and compact equipment. The previous L120 Electric Demo Tour from Volvo CE France played an important role in the decision to invest in the machine to meet the Group’s operational demands while supporting its broader decarbonization strategy.
Equipped with lithium-iron phosphate batteries delivering 282kWh of energy, the L120 Electric is engineered for demanding applications in construction, waste and recycling, urban infrastructure, and sensitive indoor environments.
In addition to its quiet, emission-free operation, the L120 Electric delivers the same trusted performance as its diesel counterpart. Productivity remains uninterrupted, and the absence of exhaust fumes supports healthier working conditions – directly aligning with Volvo CE’s commitment to people, safety, and well-being.
Key performance features include:
More power and responsiveness compare with the diesel model
A load-sensing hydraulic system that supports smooth, efficient operation
Energy recuperation, boosting run time by recapturing braking energy
Up to 5–9h of operation per charge, depending on application
Fast charging in under 2h, allowing flexible shift planning
A cab with noise levels of just 70dB, helping to reduce operator fatigue
Simplified maintenance with no engine oil, fuel filters, or DEF.
