Titan highlight the benefits of LSW tyres

Low-sidewall tyre

Tyre specialist says low-sidewall tyres can help operators get best performance out of construction equipment

TITAN Tyres are highlighting the benefits of low-sidewall (LSW) tyres as a way of getting the best performance out of construction equipment.

LSW tyres were first developed for high-performance automotive vehicles, where larger rims and thinner tyres help a car to grip the road, maximizing its performance.

But according to Titan they can have an equally emphatic impact off road, enhancing performance without requiring a change to the outside diameter, inflation pressures and load capacity of the tyres.

Improvements are gained due to the fact that the tyres do not flex and sway under increased stresses, unlike their standard counterparts.

Real-world results are said to include greater speed, stability and ride quality due to reduced road lope and bouncing, as well as a reduction in soil compaction thanks to a 20% greater contact area when compared with regular tyres.

This, say Titan, is important when it comes to the latest construction machinery, much of which often offers promises of more horsepower and greater torque but ultimately fails to deliver unless paired with the correct wheel and tyre combination.

LSW tyres can also help to increase the performance of older models, ensuring they continue to perform to the standards required on a daily basis. Titan offer LSW options for a wide range of machines, including large wheel loaders and articulated dumptrucks.

Chris Akers, managing director of Titan Tyres, said: ‘Low-sidewall technology has been used to emphatic effect in the automotive industry for many years, so we’re delighted that this technology is now available to the construction industries.

‘When you are investing vast sums into new machinery, you want to ensure you are getting exactly the same performance as you’re promised at the point of sale. Low-sidewall tyres can help to ensure that you are getting what you paid for with new machinery, or even help to increase the performance of your older model.’
