Thompsons Group supply full product range to Cook & Son

Thompsons tipper body

Charlton-bodied tippers and Hyva hookloader combination prove to be ideal choice for South East contractor

TO maximize their operating versatility, Cook & Son have recently invested in a new range of vehicles with three distinct types of bodywork – standard tippers, tipper grabs and a high-spec hookloader.

Thompsons Group have supplied all the tipper bodywork to Cook. For general duties, the contractor’s body of choice is Charlton’s all-steel SuperLite which has been designed and built to provide the maximum possible payload.

As a single-skinned optimized body design, SuperLite is made of Hardox 450 to provide superior strength, reliability and durability. Featuring a curved floor, SuperLite bodywork is also said to help the ejection of wet and sticky loads notably easier.

Another Thompsons body that Cook & Son have specified across their new fleet of vehicles is the Charlton GrabLite. Similar in design to the SuperLite, the GrabLite version, however, is purpose-designed for tipper grab work and features a reduced height headboard and flat floor to provide the easiest possible unloading of the truck via the crane’s clamshell bucket.

While Cook have settled on Volvo 8x4s as their standard tipper chassis, the company has also taken delivery of a Hyva Titan hookloader mounted on a FH truck boasting a 540hp engine.

To work with this truck, Thompsons have built a demountable Wastemaster body – essentially to the same overall specification as the full-spec Loadmaster model fitted to rigid tipper chassis.

A double-skinned design with four corner posts, the Wastemaster is a suitable demountable body for heavy-duty work on construction sites when handling high demanding loads such as demolition rubble, muck and hardcore. Plated for 44 tonnes gtw, the FH hookloader can also operate with a drawbar trailer for the transportation of plant and machinery across the South East region.

Andrew Gunn, sales manager for Charlton, said: ‘We are delighted to have, once again, been able to supply Cook & Son with the full range of their tipper requirements. Each of our Thompsons Group factories in Dover, Croydon and Blackburn has contributed to this success which, in turn, reflects the Thompsons Group is able to deliver a product range as comprehensive as this.’
