Company secures National Highways Pavement Delivery Framework contract in multi-region win

TARMAC have won a major new contract with National Highways to maintain, repair, and renew roads across England as part of its Pavement Delivery Framework (PDF).

Running from April 2023 to March 2028, the framework will see Tarmac supply the materials, plant, and labour to carry out patching, surfacing, and pavement construction, ensuring roads and pathways are maintained to the highest standard across the strategic road network.

Tarmac have won a contract for both the North and Central ‘super regions’, stretching from Norfolk and the West Midlands to the Scottish border. The PDF has evolved from previous iterations and now consists of three ‘super regions’, of which any given organization is able to tender for a maximum of two.

Tarmac say their broad network across the UK, together with their focus on innovation in technology and commitment to delivering end-to-end social value, were key factors in winning the contract.

As the UK’s leading sustainable construction materials, road contracting and building products business, Tarmac’s integrated business model was also a key part of the contract win, as it can provide a broad spectrum of services from materials sourcing to surface planning, in house.

Nick Shires, commercial director at Tarmac, said: ‘This framework award reflects our long-standing track record of delivery across the strategic network and commitment to working collaboratively with National Highways.

‘Against the backdrop of the climate emergency, a key focus will continue to be working to drive the decarbonization agenda while delivering a durable and highly resilient asset for road users.’

Duncan Smith, executive director of operations at National Highways, said: ‘We are very happy to have secured this new agreement, which is one of a number that have been signed as part of the framework.

‘Engaging an increased range of organizations from across the industry is a hugely positive step for us, allowing us to expand our supply chain and improve our resilience.

‘These contracts will also support our Net Zero Carbon Plan, which underpins all of our work now and in future years.’
