Seven new Cats for Breedon Aggregates

Cat 927K wheel loader

UK’s leading independent aggregates business purchases new Cat machines in £1.7 million deal

BREEDON Aggregates have purchased five new Cat K-Series wheel loaders from Finning, to support their quarrying and aggregate production in northern Scotland. The investment, worth £1.7 million, also includes a new Cat 336EL Hybrid excavator and a Cat 740B articulated dumptruck.

The wheel loaders (three Cat 972Ks, one Cat 938K and one Cat 980K) will help with the production of limestone, granite, basalt, sand and gravel aggregates for the construction industry, while the Hybrid excavator and ADT will assist in operations at Breedon Aggregates’ Tom’s Forest Quarry.

Alan Mackenzie, chief executive of Breedon Aggregates Scotland, said: ‘We have more than 70 applications throughout our operations in Scotland, including quarries, asphalt plants and ready-mixed concrete plants, and a commitment to reducing the environmental impact of these sites. To support that, we need a robust and reliable fleet of equipment that will give us the capacity to reduce emissions and increase our productivity.

‘Our operators have a decisive input to the purchasing decision of any machinery, and it’s key to our operations that they are comfortable and happy working with a machine before any investment is made. We have received some great feedback on the Cat machines we already have in our fleet, so it was an easy decision to invest further in Cat equipment.’

Renowned for their fuel efficiency, the Cat K-Series wheel loaders combine technology and components designed to optimize performance, service life and operating costs. Each new machine has a performance-series bucket, which has a unique shape that fills quickly and retains material, allowing Breedon to benefit from faster and more fuel-efficient loading.

John Middleton, territory account manager at Finning, said: ‘Breedon Aggregates’ stature as the UK’s largest independent aggregates supplier means that they require machinery that can complete tasks quickly and more economically. This is a further endorsement of Cat machinery and the trust Breedon Aggregates place in Finning’s ability to provide total equipment solutions. Each machine will be supported with a service and maintenance package, backed up by a five-year premium warranty.’
