Queen’s Award for two quarrying industry suppliers

JCB win Queen's Award

JCB and Crusher Manganese Steels both receive international trade award

JCB have been honoured with a Queen’s Award marking the global success of their iconic backhoe loader – in the same week the company confirmed it had retained its crown as the world’s number one manufacturer of the machine.

The Queen’s Award for Enterprise has been bestowed on the backhoe loader business unit in the international trade category for 2012. It is the 27th Queen’s Award to be won by the JCB Group since 1969 – a record for a UK company – and the 6th for their backhoe loaders. The Award honours an increase in overseas sales of almost 150% from 2009 to 2011.

JCB Group chief executive Alan Blake said: ‘To be world number one with the JCB backhoe loader is a tremendous endorsement of the quality and innovation that goes into producing this machine. To receive a Queen’s Award honouring export sales growth of the JCB backhoe is the icing on the cake and a huge honour for every single employee associated with its success.’

Crusher Manganese Steels Ltd have been awarded the Queen’s Award for Enterprise in international trade for outstanding achievement in export sales.

Founded in 1989, Crusher Manganese Steels, marketing their business under the trademark CMS Cepcor, have successfully grown into leading aftermarket manufacturers and suppliers of precision crusher spare parts, premium manganese wear parts and crusher repairs, servicing the quarrying and mining industries worldwide.

Having recently announced a further expansion of their manufacturing and distribution facilities at their Coalville headquarters in the UK, the award has quantified this expansion and underlined the success of their export sales strategy.

Winning an award for outstanding achievement in international trade, CMS Cepcor exported to over 450 customers in 88 countries over the three-year period covered by the application. Despite the worldwide economic recession and credit crisis, export turnover increased by 16% in 2010 and then a further increase of 58% in 2011. Now exporting to over 100 countries, CMS Cepcor’s projected turnover in their current financial year ending April 2012 will exceed £21 million, a further 20% growth. This success is a result of having refocused its export sales strategy on new markets, particularly in Africa, Europe and the Americas.

Their growth has been achieved through a focus on optimization of web presence together with an engineering focus on producing quality products plus an expansion of the range of services offered to our ever increasing customer base. More overseas visits for direct contact with customers and establishing business partners in key overseas territories has also aided their rapid growth.

Matthew Weare, managing director, commented: ‘To receive this highly prestigious award is fantastic recognition of our success. CMS Cepcor are grateful to the hard work and dedication of all their employees who have contributed to this outstanding performance and to the support of their valued suppliers and customers, old and new.’
