New Volvo truck for D Hughes Demolition

Volvo FMX rigid truck

Manchester-based contractor upgrades vehicle fleet with new FMX 420 8x4 rigid

D HUGHES Demolition have added a new Volvo FMX 420 8x4 rigid to their vehicle fleet, following nearly a decade’s worth of sterling service from an older FMX it replaces. Supplied by Paul McNicholas, customer solutions manager at Thomas Hardie Commercials, the new truck was acquired in rapid time after D Hughes Demolition picked up a cancelled order.

Ryan Hughes, director at D Hughes Demolition, commented: ‘Our Volvo FMX 500 has served us well for nine years, but the time had come to sort out its replacement. We did look at what other manufacturers were doing when considering a replacement but having experienced Volvo’s reliability and performance first-hand for so long, we didn’t want to go with anything else. We are looking forward to seeing what the new model FMX can do.’

The new Volvo FMX rigid, which comes mounted with a Hiab multilift hookloader body and VBG drawbar coupling, has been built for the toughest conditions and most demanding assignments. It has been designed to give a superior combination of agility, visibility, and durability, keeping the driver safe and comfortable.

Complete with a striking crimson red pearl livery, the new truck’s workload will include: moving stone and cobble from D Hughes Demolition’s own stone yard; transporting waste material from demolition sites to merchants; and helping to safely dispose of asbestos.

The FMX truck is powered by a Volvo D13K Euro-6 compliant engine that produces 420hp and 2,100Nm of torque. This is paired with a 12-speed I-Shift transmission which not only delivers improved fuel economy, but also helps make driving easier, safer, and more comfortable.

The Volvo rigid’s day cab offers superior driver comfort, with distinctive V-shaped LED headlamps with protectors, new anti-slip footsteps and a digital dashboard display. Another key contributing factor behind the latest truck investment – which is expected to be in service for at least the next four years – is the continued strong working relationship the business has built with Volvo Trucks dealer Thomas Hardie Commercials.

‘Over the years, we have always received great service from Paul [McNicholas] and the team at Thomas Hardie,’ said Mr Hughes. ‘They didn’t disappoint again this time and, thanks to a cancelled order, were able to get us a truck within just a few months, tailored to our specification.’
