Doosan DL550 wheel loader

New heavy and compact equipment make their UK debut at international show

At this year’s international Hillhead 2012 exhibition being held at the Hillhead Quarry in Buxton in Derbyshire, UK, Doosan Infracore Construction Equipment will be showing new heavy and compact equipment for the first time at the show.

Doosan excavators, wheel loaders, articulated dumptrucks (ADTs) and high-capacity telehandlers will be joined by Bobcat mini-excavator and compact loader products on the company’s stand - number W10.

The display of Bobcat compact equipment will include the new 2.6-tonne zero-tail-swing E26 compact excavator and the company’s popular S130 skid-steer loader.

The Doosan DX520LC crawler excavator will form part of the static display on stand W10 together with the new DL550-3, the flagship model in the new Doosan range of large wheel loaders. The next model in the range, the new DL450-3 model, will be in the demonstration area. This will be the first appearance of the new Doosan wheel loaders at a UK exhibition.

New-generation large wheel loaders

With bucket capacities of 4.5m3 and 5.5m3, respectively, the new DL450-3 and DL550-3 wheel loaders are intended to meet a wide range of material-handling needs from loading and transporting granular material (such as sand and gravel) to industrial, mining and quarrying applications.

The DL450-3 and DL550-3 are powered by the 13-litre Scania DC13 SCR six-cylinder diesel engine delivering ‘best in class’ power and engine torque, with maximum power outputs of 264kW and 283kW at 1,800 rev/min.

The new wheel loaders combine these high engine power outputs with new ZF transmissions and several other features to minimize fuel consumption and provide exceptional performance, ease of handling, serviceability, durability and significantly enhanced operator comfort.

New Doosan ADTs

Working with the DL450-3 in the demonstration area will be the company’s new DA40 articulated dumptruck. The DA40 is the largest model in the new family of Doosan ADTs, incorporating over 40 years of expertise in this market and using quality components from world-class suppliers such as Scania, ZF, NAF, Parker and Rexroth for extreme off-road performance. Like all Doosan ADTs, the DA40 has permanent six-wheel drive for equal power distribution while the free-swinging rear tandem bogie and the special articulation system ensures ‘best in class’ rough and soft terrain capabilities.

Powered by the six-cylinder Scania DC13 Stage IIIB compliant diesel engine with a gross power output of 368kW (500hp) at 2,100 rev/min, the new DA40 offers a 10% increase in engine power compared to the previous MT41 model.

With a 22% increase in gross torque to 2,373Nm (1,750 lb ft) at 1,300 rev/min, Doosan say the torque available in the DA40 is ‘best in class’ in the ADT market. The DA40 combines ‘best-in-class’ fuel consumption with a higher top speed of 58km/h (36 miles/h).

The DA40 also has an increased body capacity of 24.4m3, and the payload has been boosted to 40 metric tonne without tailgate, an increase of more than 15% over the payload of the MT41. The higher speeds and payloads will allow customers to increase profits from their mining, quarrying or earthmoving operations.

New Doosan high-capacity telehandlers

The new Doosan high-capacity telehandler range comprises four models offering maximum lift heights up to 10m and lifting capacities from 7 tonnes to 21 tonnes. The new Doosan telehandlers combine the flexibility of telescopic handlers with the power of wheel loaders, the efficiency of rough-terrain forklifts and the reach of mobile cranes.

They can be combined with many more attachments than comparable cranes or forklifts, allowing the operator to use one machine for carrying out jobs that would normally require two or more different machines. Using buckets up to 4.5m3 in volume, the Doosan high-capacity telehandlers are well suited to loading applications.

Doosan will be showing the DT160 model at Hillhead. The DT160 has a maximum lift height of 10.2m and maximum forward reach of 5.15m, with a maximum lift capacity of 16 tonnes. The DT160 is powered by the Perkins 1106D-ETA diesel engine providing 146kW of power at 2,200 rev/min.

New Bobcat E26 compact excavator

In the same year that Bobcat celebrate 25 years of success in the compact excavator market, this is the first appearance for the E26 model at Hillhead. Replacing the 425, 428 and 430 models, the E26 offers all the advantages of Bobcat’s state-of-the-art E-Series, namely high reliability, exceptional operator comfort, smooth and precise workgroup operation and superior hydraulic performance.

In addition, the E26 offers increased stability, optimized operating weight for towing and low noise and vibration, complemented by new features and technologies that are not available in many other compact excavators on the market.

Contributing to the high reliability of the E26 mini-excavator are: the four-plate box design for the workgroup, high-resistant DCPD covers, and ‘quick lock’ hydraulic connections. The four-plate box design reduces weight in the workgroup, which together with weight being added at the back of the excavator, has made it possible to move the centre of gravity towards the rear of the machine and increase stability.

The increased stability ensures that the E26 mini-excavator does not require an additional counterweight when configured with the optional long dipperstick. This increases the working range while still limiting the weight of the cabbed long-arm version of the E26 to 2,700kg to allow it to be transported by trailer (maximum towable weight, including trailer: 3.5 tonnes).

Exceptional operator comfort

An important achievement in the cab version is the successful integration of the same cab used on the Bobcat excavator models in the 3-5-tonne segment. Even though the E26 has a zero-tail-swing design, the cab offers the highest comfort, visibility and space standards, with heating and radio/MP3 readiness as standard.

The cab offers easy entry and exit for the operator and the design allows the door to be fully opened within the width of the upper structure. This reduces the possibility of damage to the machine and the surrounding environment.

The E26 is equipped with the 15.5kW Kubota D1105-E2B-BCZ-2 diesel engine and has a new air intake, cooling and exhaust system, helping to reduce noise for both the operator and bystanders (operator noise level is 77dBA and bystander noise is 91dBA). The sealed floor plates and isolation on the inside of the engine panel behind the operator’s seat reduce undesired heat in the cab.

Twenty-five years ago, the launch of the Bobcat compact excavator range represented an important diversification for Bobcat as the premier manufacturer of skid-steer loaders, a market the company continues to lead today.

Powered by the 34.3kW Kubota V2203 four-cylinder diesel engine, the S130 is the biggest model in the Bobcat small skid-steer loader range. The S130 has an operating weight of 2,263kg, a rated operating capacity of 600kg, a tipping load of 1,200kg and a lift height of 2,781mm.

Superb manoeuvrability and attachment versatility

The strong lift arms, short wheelbase and compact design of the S130 offer superior manoeuvrability for work in tight spaces. The 1,964mm height of the spacious operator cab on the S130 offers excellent access to, and visibility of, the attachments on the machine, increasing productivity and allowing the operator to complete more work in less time

With a high hydraulic pump capacity and an impressive hydraulic flow of 63 litres/min, the S130 is an excellent tool carrier for the 43 different attachments designed for use with this machine. With 43 different tools to choose from, the S130 can work in construction, demolition, public sector, renovation, landscaping and general material handling applications.

Standard features of the S130 loader include an adjustable cushion seat, the Bobcat Interlock Control System (BICS) for safety, a deluxe cab, the dual-path cooling system, front and rear lights, heavy-duty drive chains that never need adjustment and a transverse mounted engine for fast, easy servicing.
