Doosan celebrates 40 years of permanent six-wheel drive on company’s articulated dumptruck range

THIS year Doosan Infracore Construction Equipment are celebrating the 40th anniversary of the permanent six-wheel drive system on the company’s articulated dumptruck range.

To mark the event, the company held a 40th birthday celebration at the Doosan ADT plant at Elnesvagen, in Norway, attended by more than 50 dealers and customers from Germany, Italy, the US, Canada, Saudi Arabia, Norway and Russia.

Thanks to the unique design of a forward-mounted turning ring, sloping rear frame and free-swinging rear tandem bogie, weight is distributed equally throughout the ADT, providing excellent stability, and all six wheels remain in continuous contact with the ground.

The permanent 6-wheel drive produced by the flexible and agile undercarriage means that Doosan trucks can operate on very rough and soft terrain on construction sites, such as road projects and mass excavation hauling, as well as in mining and quarrying applications.

The sloping body design further enhances the stability of the truck, thanks to its low centre of gravity, and allows fast and easy tipping.

According to Doosan, the combination of the unique tandem bogie and the sloping rear frame results in ‘best in class’ rough and soft terrain capabilities, and avoids the need for electronic aids such as traction control.

Prior to the celebrations, the ADT factory announced a name change from Doosan Moxy AS to Doosan Infracore Norway AS. Both the factory and production remain the same, with no change to their ownership.

Doosan say the name change not only illustrates their intention to further integrate the facility into the Doosan group, but also reinforces the company’s presence in the ADT market.

Typical of this level of intent have been several new investments earlier this year, including a new production line and a new shot-blasting facility, with further investments to be announced shortly.
