More Volvo trucks for Crown Waste Management

Volvo FMX 420 8x4 tippers run by Crown Waste Management

Recycled aggregates supplier continues Volvo fleet transition with four new FMX 420 8x4 tippers

NUNEATON-based Crown Waste Management have added four new Volvo FMX 420 8x4 tippers to their fleet with a total of 16 Volvo trucks set to join the company’s operation in the next 18 months.

Supplied by Rory Kelly, transport solutions executive at Volvo Truck and Bus Centre South & East, Crown Waste Management’s fleet was previously stocked almost exclusively by a rival manufacturer, but the operator was so impressed by a Volvo demonstration truck it trialled that it plans to welcome more of the Swedish marque’s models going forward.

Kash Chaudry, managing director of Crown Waste Management, commented: ‘When we tried our first Volvo it was clear from the outset that it was capable of everything promised and more. Our drivers were particularly impressed by the technology onboard and when combined with the truck’s fuel performance, it made for a very competitive package.’

Each FMX truck is powered by a D13K Euro-6 compliant Step E engine that produces 420hp and 2,100Nm of torque. This is paired with Thompsons tipper bodywork and Volvo’s 12-speed automatic I-Shift transmission, making driving easier, safer, and more comfortable.

Crown Waste Management have also equipped their latest Volvo tippers, which have been bought outright, with Volvo Trucks’ Active Safety+ package. This includes some of the manufacturer’s latest safety technologies, such as adaptive cruise control, an advanced emergency brake system, and lane departure warning system. For increased safety, visibility, and performance, the FMXs are equipped with Volvo’s day cab and Dynamic Steering.

‘The cab’s visibility and the vehicle’s overall manoeuvrability make the FMX an ideal match for our needs,' said Mr Chaudry. ‘We’re an extremely busy operator that regularly works in demanding locations, but the FMX never misses a beat. We’re constantly impressed by what Volvo’s technology can handle.’

Built for the toughest highway conditions and most demanding applications, Crown Waste Management’s new FMX tippers are expected to clock up to 70,000km annually. The recycling operator has also opted to back their Volvos with a three-year Volvo Gold contract to guarantee maximum uptime and worry-free ownership.
