Liebherr apply for production site construction permit
Dedicated French facility for assembly of Liebherr earthmoving machine operator cabs scheduled to open in 2028
AN application for a construction permit for the new Liebherr-EMtec Nambsheim production site has just been filed. The project marks the beginning of a new phase in the Liebherr Group’s industrial development in France and reflects a clear vision: strengthening strategic independence, implementing modern production technologies, and reinforcing regional ties. The investment in the new site exceeds €100 million.
At the Liebherr-EMtec Nambsheim site, the Liebherr Group will consolidate their expertise in the assembly of operator cabs for earthmoving machinery. In the initial project phase, the facility is designed for an annual capacity of 10,000 cabs. The production site is being developed based on a modern organizational concept featuring autonomous production cells, agile logistics, automation, digital traceability, and data-driven process management.

The site is scheduled to begin operations in early 2028 and will employ more than 200 people. Its organizational structure will be production-focused and agile. Moreover, it is planned to serve as a competence centre for the earthmoving machinery product segment, centralizing strategic expertise.
The Nambsheim business park was selected due to its advantageous location and proximity to the Liebherr Group’s established sites, as well as the constructive co-operation with the responsible authorities and successful territorial alignment of the project at the European level. With this new initiative, the Group’s presence in Alsace – a region where Liebherr have been active since 1961 – will be further strengthened, ensuring the region’s industrial heritage is carried forward with a focus on the future.
