KT Montgomery add more Volvos to hire fleet

Volvo EC220E excavator

Scottish plant hire firm adds five EC140E and five EC220E excavators to expansive fleet

KT Montgomery Plant Hire Ltd of Galston, Ayrshire, have added more Volvo excavators to their hire fleet since purchasing an initial batch of fourteen 22- and 30-tonne machines last year.

‘Since making the initial investment in new Volvo excavators last year, we haven’t been let down by either the product or the support we have received from SMT GB’s Customer Support Centre in Stirling,’ commented managing director Keith Montgomery.

‘Furthermore, having a high-quality brand’s machines available for hire is paying dividends with many of our major contracting and civil engineering customers, who specifically call for Volvos. Having fresh equipment in the fleet has certainly helped the business, which has encouraged us to purchase more machines for 2020.’

The latest batch includes five 14-tonne EC140Es and five 22-tonne EC220Es, bringing the total number of Volvo excavators in the hire fleet to 21. All of the machines are configured in a straightforward standard specification that includes hammer/shear hydraulics, hydraulic quick-couplers and hose-rupture valves fitted to the boom and dipper arm cylinders.

Volvo Stage V-compliant four- and six-cylinder engines, developing 121hp and 174hp, respectively, power both models of machine. The EC140Es and EC220Es also benefit from the addition of an Integrated work mode control, which significantly lowers fuel consumption by providing rapid dig cycles at a high level of efficiency.

This advanced mode control system also ensures the maximum possible hydraulic horsepower available is delivered at a constant engine speed under varying load conditions. In addition, boom and arm geometry provide highly competitive digging forces and lifting capacities, which makes for faster work cycles.

‘Besides being offered a favourable package by SMT GB, another important factor behind my decision to purchase Volvo excavators is down to the very high residual values the machines command when it becomes time to move them on,’ added Mr Montgomery.

KT Montgomery Plant Hire Ltd cover the whole of Scotland but mainly operate throughout the Central Belt, offering a range of crawler and wheeled excavators up to 30 tonnes, as well as articulated haulers, loading shovels, dozers, telehandlers, rollers, industrial tractors, and fuel and water bowsers.

The plant fleet is available for short-, mid- and long-term operated hire, supported by KT Montgomery’s transport fleet of Volvo-badged lorries, including a low-loader and a four-axle heavy-duty plant wagon complete with crane, plus four road-going tippers.
