JCB strengthen Workmax range with new diesel model

JCB add new 4x4 to their range of utility vehicles

The new Workmax 800 D from JCB offers 600kg maximum payload and has been designed to appeal to a wide variety of sectors including estates and land management, local authorities, utilities, shows and events and rental companies.

Its launch extends the Workmax range, which also includes the current Workmax 1000 D model 4x4, a heavy-duty machine, and the Workmax 6x4, which is suitable for fine turf applications.

JCB began 2011 by announcing the switch to their Workmax branding to emphasize the focus on work-related applications performed increasingly more by utility terrain vehicles (UTVs) than ride-on all-terrain vehicles (ATVs).

The choice of a 784cc Yanmar diesel engine coupled to a two-speed CVT with kevlar belt is a deliberate move to position the 800 D model in the middle of the growing mid-range UTV volume sector. The 4x4 drive plus selectable diff lock is electronic. In keeping with JCB's other models, the 800 D cab has a flat checkplate floor for uninterrupted access from either side, and bench or bucket seats. The steel-construction tipping cargo deck can carry 400kg.

Underneath there's a steel plate guard for major transmission components when engaged in unpredictable off-road environments. Likewise, to protect the engine during wading the air intake is mounted as high as possible, waist-high inside the front stowage compartment.

Engine and CVT are positioned further forward than is the case on most UTVs. This is to achieve an optimum 50–50 front to rear weight distribution when fully laden.

A wide range of accessories will be available including: sealed cab with stable doors, soft door or hard door options, beacon kit, cab radio kit, bull bar, load bed liner, front tow hitch, interior mirror, work light kit, road light kit and hydraulic lift.

Alongside the 18-month product-design programme for the 800 D at the JCB Utility Products factory, Cheadle, Staffordshire, JCB have been extending their Workmax dealer network to encompass as wide a market coverage as possible. A new dealer appointment project has been underway throughout last year to add specialist ATV dealers to their established network covering main-line construction equipment dealers, and also specialist agricultural equipment dealers who offer a wide range of products from JCB Landpower Ltd. Some 75 UK dealer outlets are now authorized to offer the JCB Workmax range.
