Improved drilling safety

Working closely with the British Drilling Association, Klemm and Ingersoll-Rand drilling equipment distributors Skelair have designed a new 'trip wire' emergency cut-off system for second-hand drill rigs. The device is now routinely fitted to their second-hand machines to bring them up to the same safety standards as new models equipped with emergency stop buttons.

John Mayo, Skelair's operations director, said: 'In the UK, there is a lot of old equipment being used which doesn't meet today's requirements for health and safety. We believe we are ahead by fitting an emergency stop to second-hand rigs.'

As part of their services, Skelair will visit any site to provide a free safety inspection and advise on the fitting of safety equipment.
