Hills Quarry Products has an opportunity for an experienced Divisional Managing Director to join and lead our existing company based in Swindon with operating sites across Wiltshire and surrounding counties. This role is a Board (Quarry Products Ltd) position and will report to The Hills Group Chief Executive, working alongside a motivated, enthusiastic, and experienced senior management team. About the role:

As the Divisional Managing Director, you will be responsible for a team of over 110 employees, and a portfolio of 13 operational sites and growing. You will plan, lead, organise and control the profitable operation of the company’s quarry, concrete and inert tipping activities. 

Your key responsibilities will include:

  • Oversee the divisional business operations, financial performance, investments and spend, ensuring costs are strictly controlled in line with budget targets and purchasing procedures.

  • Provide industry insights and strategy advice accordingly. Identify and recommend new development opportunities and evaluate and recommend changes in strategy, policy or procedures with a view to increasing overall performance, profitability and efficiency.

  • Develop and execute business strategies to achieve short and long term goals.  Target and oversee development and planning activities with regards to future aggregate reserves, concrete production activities and general growth opportunities.

  • As the ‘owner’ of the divisional Health and Safety Manual, ensure all policies, safe systems of work, risk assessments and all other associated health and safety protocols are updated and clearly communicated, trained and adhered to. 

  • Ensure Divisional compliance with the health and safety, environmental and where relevant The Quarry Regulations 1999 and all associated legislation.

What we’re looking for in our Divisional Managing Director:

  • Demonstrable experience as a senior leader in a similar industry

  • Extensive industry knowledge and interest, the ability to demonstrate sound technical knowledge and understanding

  • Proven ability to make sound, evidence-based, strategic decisions

  • Clear communication skills, both written and verbal, with strong active listening skills and the ability to communicate with people of all skill levels and abilities

  • Analytical and problem-solving skills, ability to evaluate current situations and make decisions to ensure growth and profitability

  • Demonstrable people management skills and experience.
