FM Conway

New video animation explains why self-delivery is a central aspect of the company’s offering

FM Conway, one of the UK’s leading infrastructure services providers, have developed an animation to explain how and why the company self-delivers its services.

With responsibility for constructing and maintaining roads, buildings, structures and public spaces across London and the South East, self-delivery is a central aspect of FM Conway’s offering to local authority and private clients, and the company has invested heavily in its own infrastructure over the last 50 years to enable it to use in-house teams and supply its own materials for projects wherever possible.

The company owns and operates two recycling plants at Erith and Heathrow, which manufacture asphalt with a high recycled content. The two plants have the combined capacity to produce 700,000 tonnes of recycled asphalt per year, providing a significant portion of the materials that FM Conway use in their day-to-day operations.

In addition, the company owns a bitumen terminal in Gravesend, from where it now imports its own bitumen from ExxonMobil’s refinery in Antwerp, Belgium.

Investing in home-grown talent is also part of FM Conway’s self-delivery model. The company currently employs 25 apprentices across the business and, in partnership with the Worshipful Company of Paviors, runs the London Highways Academy of Excellence – a dedicated centre that provides accredited skills training for the construction industry. In particular, the Academy focuses on helping young adults in the capital take their first steps into a new career in the construction and highways maintenance industries.

FM Conway’s chief operating officer, Andrew Hansen, commented: ‘Self-delivery is at the heart of our business and this animation is a great way of explaining its importance to us and our customers. By supplying our own materials and using in-house capabilities rather than sub-contractors, we are able to deliver projects faster, more efficiently and with lower costs.’

The new animation can be viewed on FM Conway’s website
