Hyundai HX300L excavator

Plant hire firm purchases new HX300L excavator for recycling and demolition customers

DERBYSHIRE Crushing & Screening Ltd have bolstered their mobile plant rental fleet with the purchase of a new Hyundai HX300L excavator from local dealers TBS Plant.

While Derbyshire Crushing & Screening does not undertake demolition work directly, the company works in close partnership with several waste-management operators on a plant hire basis, most notably regular customer East Midlands Demolition.

The plant hire firm has recently put the HX300L machine to work on a former Boots site in Nottingham, where it is helping to crush and recycle approximately 3,000 tonnes of demolition rubble down to 6F2 recycled capping for use on the next phase of redevelopment or for sale off site if needed.

Steve Ford, co-director of Derbyshire Crushing & Screening, has been impressed with the performance of the new Hyundai excavator. ‘Not only is this our first Hyundai, but it’s our first time dealing with TBS Plant,’ he commented.

When the HX300L excavator was first launched back in 2015, Hyundai said it represented a huge leap forward in technology, particularly with the South Korean manufacturer’s exclusive ‘All-Around View Monitoring’ (AAVM) camera system – a feature that provides a 360-degree virtual operating view for improved safety.

Also included in the AAVM unit is the Intelligent Moving Object Detection (IMOD) system that warns the operator (with both visual and audible alerts) when objects are within 5m of the machine.

The 30-tonne HX300L machine is powered by a Stage IV emissions-compliant Cummins engine that delivers 242hp at 1,950 rev/min.

Mr Ford takes a very ‘hands-on’ approach to his business and was operating the Hyundai excavator on what was only its second day after delivery.

‘It’s early days, but it’s proving to be a great machine to operate with minimal effort required and from what I have seen so far, it’s going to be extremely economical on fuel,’ he said. ‘It’s also got plenty of power which is great for us when dealing with the large lumps of concrete that we process.’

To meet the demolition demands of Derbyshire Crushing & Screening’s plant hire customers, the HX300L has been fitted with angled side-impact skirts, a demo-spec bucket ram guard to protect the chrome rod, a hydraulic quick-hitch and full ‘fall-from-height’ boxing ring protection supplied by Cab Care.
