Charlton SuperLite bodies for SRC Aggregates

Charlton SuperLite tipper body

Performance of truck firm’s first all-steel SuperLite tipper body leads to an order for a further ten

IT is always pleasing when something turns out just right, and for SRC Aggregates, that something is a Charlton all-steel SuperLite tipper body, mounted on a Scania 8x4 chassis.

‘This tipper body takes everything in its stride,’ said SRC’s commercial manager Clint Layzell. ‘Whilst the majority of the work our trucks do is taking out aggregates, we also have to accommodate backloads that can be anything from muckaway to demolition materials. What we want is one tipper body that can handle the lot – and with a good payload potential too. For us, it’s the SuperLite.’

Based a few miles from Stansted Airport at Great Dunmow, Essex, SRC currently employ some 40 tippers across their three different sites. Now a leading regional supplier of all types of primary and recycled aggregates, the company has grown rapidly since its original formation as Sewells Reservoir Construction Ltd in 1994.

‘Providing a high-quality, reliable service is the core of everything that we do,’ said Mr Layzell, ‘and key to this is having an up-to-date fleet of high-productivity trucks. Right now, the fleet is busier than ever, so reliability and performance are everything. Mounted on their latest-spec Scania 410hp chassis, our Charlton tippers tare off at 12,700kg, giving us a payload of 19,300kg. For a Euro 6 vehicle with an all-steel body, that really is as good as you’re going to get.’

As a relatively new company in the industry, SRC pay particular attention to their image and appearance. As a result, most of their truck livery is white, to promote high-visibility and cleanliness. With completely smooth single-piece sides, the SuperLite significantly helps in this aim by preventing dirt build-up and making routine cleaning quick and easy.

Inside the body, SuperLite’s curved floor also ensures a clean and speedy ejection of the load, particularly with wet or sticky materials.

Charlton sales manager Andrew Gunn said: ‘Given the operating profile of their business, SRC really are the ideal customer for SuperLite. This is an exceptionally strong, lightweight general-purpose steel body that can happily tackle almost any job out there, whilst also delivering high carrying capacity, everyday reliability and minimal overall cost of ownership.

‘For fast-growing companies such as SRC, SuperLite offers outstanding versatility and great value for money, and  I’m delighted that we will shortly be supplying them with another ten.’
