Caterpillar introduce next-generation excavators

Cat 323 excavator

Latest 320 GC, 320 and 323 models designed to offer increased efficiency and improved operator comfort

CATERPILLAR have introduced three new-generation excavators – the 320 GC, 320 and 323 – that have been specially engineered to deliver increased operating efficiency, lower fuel/maintenance costs and greater operator comfort compared to previous models.

According to Caterpillar, the new 320 and 323 machines come with the highest level of standard factory-equipped technology for enhanced productivity in the industry. Both excavators, for example, are equipped with integrated Cat Connect technologies, which are said to increase efficiency by up to 45% over traditional grading operations.

Offering guidance for depth, slope and horizontal distance to grade, the use of Cat Grade (with 2D system) helps operators reach desired grades quickly and accurately. Utilizing the system’s E-fence feature allows the machine to work safely under structures or near traffic by preventing any part of the excavator from moving outside operator-defined set points.

There is also the standard Cat Grade Assist which automates boom, stick and bucket movements, so operators stay on grade with single-lever digging. Cat Payload on-board weighing (standard on the Cat 320 and 323 models) delivers precise load targets and increased loading efficiency with on-the-go weighing and real-time payload estimates to prevent truck overloading and underloading.

Also available for operators is Cat Link hardware and software, which connects jobsites to the office and provides customers with machine-critical operating information.

The new Cat excavators offer power ratings from 90kW to 121kW and have been designed to consume 25% less fuel than their predecessors. A new Smart mode operation automatically matches engine and hydraulic power to digging conditions, optimizing both fuel consumption and performance. Engine speed is automatically lowered when there is no hydraulic demand to further reduce fuel usage.

The machines are also equipped with a new cooling system that employs multiple electric fans, which independently monitor hydraulic oil, radiator and air-to-air aftercooler temperatures to deliver the exact airflow required. And with a new hydraulic system built for responsiveness and efficiency, the Cat 320 GC, 320 and 323 units feature a newly designed main control valve that eliminates the need for pilot lines, reduces pressure losses and minimizes fuel consumption.

Offering extended and more synchronized maintenance intervals, the Cat excavators are equipped with new hydraulic return filters that boast a 3,000h service life – a 50% increase over previous filters. In addition, a new Cat air filter (with integrated pre-cleaner and primary/secondary filters) extends service life up to 1,000h, while a new fuel tank cap filter increases service life to 2,000h.

The next-generation Cat excavator cab includes standard features such as keyless pushbutton start, a large touchscreen monitor with jog dial keys for control and sound-suppressed rollover protective structures (ROPS) to provide comfortable, safe and quiet operation.  Furthermore, new advanced viscous mounts reduce cab vibration by up to 50% over previous models to reduce operator fatigue.

The Cat 320 GC, 320 and 323 models offer a choice of comfort, deluxe or premium cab packages, with the newly designed spacious cab featuring a low-profile design and large front, rear and side windows that enhances operator visibility.
