Brett Group expands into the US

ROBERT Brett and Sons, the Canterbury-based independent construction materials group, have expanded into the US market with the acquisition of 100% of the share capital of West Sand and Gravel, a Virginia-based sand and gravel producer operating four pits in the Richmond and Shenandoah Valley areas.

Commenting on the deal, deputy chairman Bill Brett said: ‘This acquisition gives the group an excellent platform from which to expand in Virginia and brings us significant reserves in a growth market.’

At the same time, Brett have also acquired the Stuarts Draft sand and gravel operation in western Virginia from the Blue Ridge Stone Corp. Simon Russell, Brett group chief executive, said: ‘This further acquisition will strengthen our position in the Shenandoah Valley and we will continue to search for further opportunities to expand in this part of the US.’

 

Robert Brett and Sons are now one of the largest independent construction materials companies in the UK, with interests in sand and gravel, ready-mixed concrete, concrete products, specialist builders merchants, waste management and construction. The group employs around 900 staff and has an annual turnover of £150 million.
