Brett Group expand with £29.8 million acquisition

CANTERBURY-based Robert Brett and Sons have expanded their operations with the acquisition of Greenham Construction Materials, a wholly owned subsidiary of Taylor Woodrow, for £29.8 million.

Greenham have sand and gravel, waste disposal and block-paving manufacturing operations, principally in the south-east of England. They have 180 employees and an annual turnover of around £22 million.

'This is an excellent strategic move for us,' said Brett Group deputy chairman Bill Brett. 'It extends our geographic coverage in terms of sand and gravel extraction and waste disposal, and also puts us firmly in the block-paving market.'

Founded almost 100 years ago, the Brett Group employ over 650 staff and have an annual turnover of around £100 million. Their principal operations cover aggregates, ready-mixed concrete, asphalt, construction, waste disposal and specialist building products.

Commenting on the acquisition, group chief executive Simon Russell said: 'At a time when some of the biggest players in the market place are merging and bidding for each other, it is encouraging to note that expansion is also possible for medium-size companies.'
