Hillhead 2003

What’s new at this year’s international quarrying and recycling show

Next month over 430 companies from around the world will converge on Tarmac Central’s Hillhead Quarry, near Buxton, Derbyshire, UK, to showcase their latest plant, equipment and services for the quarrying, recycling and associated industries. Over the following nine pages Quarry Management presents a brief glimpse of just a few of the new products and exhibitors making their debut appearance at Hillhead 2003 from 24–26 June.

Drilling, Blasting & Breaking

Co-Ordinated Surveys

Alongside their face-profiling and surveying exhibits, Co-Ordinated Surveys will be showing Volume.4, a new software package specifically designed to calculate volumes of stockpiles, overburden, voids etc. Developed to suit users of the company’s well established Quarry.4 face-profiling system, the software includes automatic modelling of surveys and detailed reporting with 3D views. Volume.4 can be purchased for use with existing face-surveying equipment or as part of a complete package called LaserAce Stock Solution. This package comes complete with the MDL LaserAce, a light, easy-to-use laser which will also be on display at the show. Tel: (01492) 870277

HammerTech Ltd

At Hillhead 2003 HammerTech will be launching an entirely new range of hydraulic breakers comprising models which are said to be more efficient, powerful and productive, and quieter, than conventional breakers. The HammerTech breaker operates by the build up and release of strain energy using the novel technology of elastic power springs, with the result that virtually no vibration is carried through to the machine and operator. Whereas conventional high-frequency breakers with strike rates reaching over 2,000bpm tend to ‘drill’ the chisel through material, the slower, more powerful 70bpm strike rate of a HammerTech breaker is said to result in greater damage, ensuring larger pieces are produced, which in turn speeds up the breaking process. Using this technology, mini 1.5-tonne crawlers can now carry a 500 joules/blow hammer and 2.5–3-tonne crawlers can carry a 1,000 joules/blow hammer. Tel: (01733) 355810

IP Equipment Sales Ltd

IP Equipment Sales will be using Hillhead as the launch pad for the new Montabert 125SX silenced hydraulic breaker for use on carriers from 4 to 10 tonnes. A new working principle reduces the number of parts, while Autopower (automatic regulation of flow and pressure) and Optipower (an energy recovery system) ensure that maximum and constant energy is maintained for all carriers regardless of flow or temperature variations. With an operating weight of 373kg, silencing and reinforced elastic suspension as standard, protection against blank-firing and a single sealed accumulator, this high-specification breaker is said to achieve excellent levels of productivity and economy.
