Sandvik Construction unveil their latest track-mounted cone crushers at an open day event in Northern Ireland

On 7 and 8 October Sandvik Construction held a highly successful product launch event in Northern Ireland for customers and distributors. More than 100 guests from far and wide attended the two-day programme, which included interactive seminars/presentations and a factory tour of Sandvik’s state-of-the-art production facilities in Ballygawley.

The main highlight of the event, however, was the official launch and demonstration of Sandvik’s latest mobile S-type gyratory cone crushers at a local quarry. Expanding its mobile crusher portfolio, the company has launched the new QS441 and QS331 track-mounted cone crushers to meet the most demanding of aggregate producers.

The S-type cone crusher has proved itself in stationary applications for more than 30 years, and it has now been incorporated into a self-contained, diesel driven track-mounted plant.

Sandvik say their latest S-type gyratory cone crusher is able to accept a feed size up to 90% larger than current standard cones. This allows maximum productivity from the primary crusher or, alternatively, the S cone unit can be operated as a primary crusher in gravel applications.

The larger 56-tonne class QS441 unit will feature the CS440 cone, while the smaller, more compact 36-tonne class QS331 will incorporate the CS430 cone crusher. There is a choice of three concaves and four bush settings to control the closed-side settings and material gradation.

The machines are capable of delivering large reduction ratios, with minimal fines, making production suitable for crusher-run (6F5 material), rail ballast and drainage stone for a tertiary crushing plant.

Key features and benefits include: an automatic level sensor above the crushing chamber to control the feed rate and minimize operator intervention for maximum production and reduction; a metal detector fitted as standard to provide stability and protection from tramp material; and four hydraulic jacking legs to help deliver stability and provide a level operating platform.

The QS441 and QS331 models are also equipped with a remote camera to view the crushing chamber from ground level, and a hydroset CSS regulation system to optimize production and keep track of liner wear.

Powered by a Cat C13 diesel engine with direct drive to provide maximum power delivery and fuel efficiency, the track-mounted crushers feature a heavy-duty ‘I’ beam chassis, to ensure optimum durability, and a hydraulically driven cooling fan with auto-reverse function to back flush dust from the radiator.

While the S-type cone crushers took centre stage at the event, Sandvik also unveiled and demonstrated their latest QE141 mobile scalper. Based on the company’s first mass-produced track-mounted screener – the Robotrac – this new mobile scalper can handle the biggest of infeed material, yet also doubles as a fine grading screen for a wide range of materials including topsoil, waste and crusher run

The QE141’s manoeuvrability and 1,000mm wide stacking conveyor allows the machine to create a windrow/radial stockpile or 300-tonne conical stockpile. Easily fed by a wheel loader, excavator grab or crusher, and with its multi-purpose design, the mobile scalper is an ideal rental unit that can be easily deployed anywhere on site.

The QE141 scalper features, as standard, a fuel-efficient 87hp (65kW) Cat engine along with a unique colour-coded numeric control system with sequential start-up for ease of operation, and full radio remote control.

The machine is also equipped with independent feeder and discharge conveyor drives to provide greater control of the material, reducing stress on the scalper and increasing longevity.

The two-day event in Northern Ireland proved to be the perfect launch pad for new additions to the Sandvik Construction product range and customers were also able to see the QI341 Prisec impact crusher in action.

The mobile crusher is built using Sandvik’s patented Prisec technology and has been designed to work in either a primary or a secondary capacity. It can operate independently or in conjunction with other models from the Sandvik product line in quarrying, recycling and demolition applications.

The QI341 impact crusher is fitted with an underpan feeder for maximum belt protection and to reduce any spillage generally associated with impact crushers. It is also available with an optional hanging screen system, which is said to give customers an even greater return on investment by being able to produce accurately sized products for immediate use. A choice of pre-screen media can be utilized on the machine.

The activities laid on during the open day allowed Sandvik to fully showcase their new products, helping customers to identify how they will be able to benefit from them, as well as allowing them to see the company’s world-class Ballygawley facilities at first hand.
