Yeoman welcome more Volvos

Foster Yeoman Ltd have taken delivery of three Volvo A40 articulated dumptrucks for their limestone operations at Torr Works, near Shepton Mallet.

One of the reasons the dumptrucks were chosen was for their environmental performance - a quality insisted on by Foster Yeoman. They replace two 85-tonne rigid dumptrucks and will be used on a variety of work around the quarry including loading at the face, moving overburden for restoration and environmental landscaping work, and general internal material handling. Because of their flexibility and versatility they will also be used in the development of the new Leighton Quarry extension.

The A40s will significantly reduce fuel consumption at the quarry, thereby contributing to a reduction in emissions produced by the low-emission 12-litre turbocharged and intercooled engines which feature maximum torque at low revs/min. To eliminate disturbance to near neighbours when vehicles are reversing, FAW warblers and flashing xenon lights have been fitted.
