Volvo trucks for Aggregate Industries

Having taken delivery of four Volvo A40D articulated dumptrucks for Croft Quarry last autumn, Aggregate Industries have taken delivery of a further four A40Ds to work at Bardon Hill Quarry.

The new dumptrucks are running two 8h shifts each day and are being used to handle material from the recently commissioned static plant at Bardon Hill. Fitted with full cantilever tailgates, the trucks have a load capacity of 23.2m3 and a payload capacity of 37,000kg.

‘When we scrutinized the market place we came to the conclusion that the package and the product from Volvo was the most cost-effective when considering the life-time cost cycle,’ said Henry Ike, Aggregate Industries’ mobile plant manager. ‘Within our mobile plant policy we look at all aspects of the product we’re wishing to purchase. Naturally, included in the process is input from the operating units plus, where possible, the operator’s assessment of the machine. Further to the commercial issues, consideration is also given to serviceability and any historic performance data.’ Product support and liaison directly from the manufacturer was another important factor for Aggregate Industries.

The dumprucks supplied to Aggregate Industries are fitted with additional wear plates, side extensions, full cantilever tailgates and foldable spill guards. Full regard to safety has been addressed with the fitment of additional mirrors, strobe lights for reversing, colour camera, and body-up/first-gear interlock with audible alarm.
