Volvo CE win innovation award

Volvo on-board weighing system for F-Series haulers recognized at Intermat 2012 Innovation Awards

FROM over 100 entries from leading manufacturers, a high-level jury of industry experts has judged Volvo CE’s on-board weighing system a winner at the Intermat 2012 Innovation Awards.

The company’s sophisticated on-board weighing system is designed for use on the F-Series haulers and provides users with an insight into machinery productivity. The system monitors the input of weight on the machine from pressure sensors and relays this information to load software integrated into the hauler’s electronics.

The fully automated on-board weighing instrument logs all transported loads and the ensuing data is displayed on the operator’s display. The information can also be accessed remotely through Volvo’s advanced CareTrack telematics system. This allows complete payload management – giving access to data such as total transported load in tonnes and tonnes transported per litre of fuel or number of cycles.

Importantly, the system highlights if the machine has been overloaded during any of its cycles, thanks to a load indicator light mounted outside the machine. A yellow light comes on when at part load, which changes to a green light at nominal load but turns red if the machine is overloaded. This simple tool helps prevent overloading and machine wear, tyre damage and excessive fuel consumption.

The nominal load can be preset to suit material and site requirements. The system also offers the ability to unlock previously inaccessible information, including the weight of ‘carry-back’ left in the haul body after tipping.

Volvo CE will receive their prize on the first day of the Intermat Exhibition in Paris on 16 April 2012.
