Triple certification achievement for Hills

ESA director general acknowledges company’s quality, environmental and health & safety success

HILLS Waste Solutions Ltd have achieved certification of their quality, environmental and health and safety management systems to the three international standards of ISO 9001, ISO 14001 and OHSAS 18001 respectively.

Barry Dennis, director general of the Environmental Services Association and president of the Chartered Institution of Wastes Management, visited Hills Waste Solutions last month to acknowledge the company’s success.

‘Hills are one of a select group of companies in the waste-management sector to have achieved certification to the three standards for all their waste-management sites,’ he commented.

‘Maintaining these requires a process of continual assessment and improvement, which relies heavily on the dedication of all those involved. Hills’ commitment to the task is helping to create a positive image for the sustainable waste and resource management industry.’

Mike Webster, group director of Hills Waste Solutions, added: ‘The trio of certifications are key to the company’s commitment to provide a quality service to customers, maintain the highest environmental standards and ensure the health and safety of employees and others.

‘This achievement confirms our operations and practices are of a recognized international standard and will give us a valuable competitive edge when looking to secure new business.’

All activities and facilities managed by Hills Waste Solutions are covered by the certifications, including transport and collection operations, recycling, treatment, transfer and landfill with energy recovery.

The company’s operations include a materials recycling facility, disposal site and compost processing at Lower Compton, further disposal sites at Purton and Blunsdon, together with offices, transport depots and household recycling centres across Wiltshire.

The certification project was led by environment manager Daryl Taylor and health and safety manager Paul Elling, with the support of all Hills Waste Solutions’ staff. The audit for the three certifications was carried out by SGS United Kingdom Ltd, an independent external certification body.
