Train to gain

OVER the last two years, the Concrete Society and University of Derby Corporate, the business-to-business arm of the organization, have joined forces to develop ‘Certificate of Achievement: Concrete Technology’ course.

The distance learning course has been specially developed for anyone who wants to progress their career in construction or building materials, covering basics such as the production and properties of concrete and testing, batching and mixing on site.

Richard England, chief executive officer of Concrete Society, said: ‘We realized that we had a lot of very experienced people in the industry who didn’t have a formal qualification related to their work.

‘University of Derby already offer the Ready Mixed Concrete Technology course, so it was a natural move to ask experts there to develop this course further. It has been a fruitful collaboration with University of Derby Corporate.’

Paul Wilkinson, head of corporate sales at UDC, added: ‘We offer a number of professional courses related to the quarrying and construction industries, and have excellent links with the Institute of Quarrying and Institute of Asphalt Technology.’
