The Road to Extended Pavement Life

THE Society of SCI (Society of Chemical Industry) Materials and Construction Group, in association with the Institute of Asphalt Technology and the Institute of Highways & Transportation, is to hold a one-day conference entitled ‘The Road to Extended Pavement Life’ on 15 March 2007 at SCI, 14/15 Belgrave Square, London SW1X 8PS.

Based on the accepted view that asphalt pavement life should be as long as practicably possible, the conference will examine what this actually means and how it can be achieved. The role of constituent materials will be covered along with how best to test asphalt ageing and how to specify for a long-life pavement. The role of EME will also be covered, together with why it matters that asphalt pavements provide the best qualities for as long as possible.

Among the key speakers at the conference will be: Colin Loveday of Tarmac, who will look at the role of aggregates in asphalt life; Ian Walsh of Jacobs Babtie, who will examine long-life asphalt design; and Steve Biczysko of Atkins, who will explain why long-life pavements are desirable.

The conference is expected to be of interest to suppliers of asphalt materials, specifying engineers and technicians from all aspects of the asphalt and paving industries, whether private or public.

For further information or to register for the conference, call Alison Evans on tel: (020) 7598 1566; fax: (020) 7235 7743.
