Tarmac to join BSI

TARMAC have announced that they are to withdraw from the Quality Scheme for Ready Mixed Concrete (QSRMC) and will instead join the British Standards Institution (BSI) Kitemark scheme in December 2003.

The company says the aim of the move is to continue to improve the overall quality of Tarmac products and services by utilizing a single globally recognized certification body designed to meet the needs of the company and its customers.

"Dr Jim Troy, Tarmac’s head of concrete and mortar technologies, explained why the company has decided to join BSI, ‘From Tarmac’s point of view it makes complete sense. Most of our products are already certified under the BSI Kitemark scheme, including asphalt, cement, lime and blocks, and we also use BSI as our certification body for our quality, environmental and health and safety management system certifications."

"‘The move to BSI will be seamless and will not affect our service or quality. It simply means that Tarmac will have an integrated approach to quality for all systems and products, which ultimately is good news for all our customers.’"

"Robbie Robertson, Tarmac’s chief executive officer, explained how the changing needs of the business led to the BSI move: ‘Tarmac have been a member of the QSRMC since its establishment in 1984 and it has served us well, but we feel that it is time to move on and to integrate our quality and environmental systems for the good of the business and our customers.’"

"Tarmac have given the QSRMC six months notice of their withdrawal, but will continue to work closely with the scheme until December to ensure the changeover is as smooth as possible."
