Report highlights and reaffirms company’s continued progress towards its 2030 ambitions and priorities

TARMAC have published their 2024 Sustainability Report, highlighting continued progress made against the ambitions set out in the company’s Act sustainability strategy and its People, Planet and Solutions priorities.

The report reaffirms Tarmac’s commitment to supporting a net-zero built environment, detailing how the business is embedding whole-life thinking into every part of its operations, from sourcing and manufacturing to delivering low-carbon, innovative construction solutions across the UK.

Key milestones featured in the 2024 report include:

  • People: 127 new mental health first aiders trained across the business; and Platinum membership of The 5% Club

  • Planet: A 14% reduction in absolute scope 1 and 2 (market) CO2e emissions from a 2021 baseline; the planting of 28,000 trees; the reuse of more than 1 million tonnes of recycled asphalt planings; and alignment with CRH with the adoption of new, science-based carbon-reduction targets, placing Tarmac among the most ambitious companies in the UK construction sector

  • Solutions: Launch of the Tarmac Innovation Pipeline to accelerate the delivery of sustainable products and services; and certification to PAS 2080 standards for both construction and materials supply – supporting the creation of low-carbon infrastructure across the country.

The report also reaffirms Tarmac’s approach to governance and materiality, and their ambition to generate long-term value for customers, communities, and the environment.

Emma Hines, sustainability director at Tarmac, said: ‘At Tarmac, sustainability is central to everything we do. This year’s report highlights the real progress we’re making – not only in reducing emissions and developing sustainable solutions, but in supporting our people and the communities we serve.

‘Our strategy is focused on taking a whole-life approach, working with our customers and partners to shape a built environment that’s fit for the future. We know the challenges are significant, but so is the opportunity and we’re proud to be playing our part.’
