T I Drilling place first UK order for DI550 rig

UK customer to take delivery of the first of the new generation of down-the-hole rigs from Sandvik

T I Drilling, one of the UK’s leading drilling contractors, have placed the first order in the UK for the new DI550 down-the-hole (DTH) drill rig from Sandvik Mining and Construction.

The DI550 is currently undergoing final exhaustive field testing before full production begins in May this year, and T I Drilling will be the recipient of the first unit from the new production line.

The DI550 will be the first of Sandvik’s new generation of DTH drill rigs, and will offer high levels of productivity and user comfort in 4in and 5in hammer drilling. The machine features a 324kW diesel engine and delivers 24.4 cubic metres of compressor air flow at 24 bar pressure.

The DI550 is designed to work at its maximum performance with Sandvik’s RH550 hammers, which come with bits ranging from 90mm up to 152mm, with three different bit face designs.

Sandvik say the careful match of power and hammer size will  make the rig especially productive, as well as reducing fuel consumption and keeping operating costs as low as possible.

Cost-effective machine performance is further enhanced by other advanced features, such as active diesel rev/min control, optimized diesel rev/min level during drilling and active control of compressor running temperature.

The DI550 also features a modern, accurate control system with simple icon displays and comprehensive service information, housed within an overpressurized and air-conditioned ROPS and FOPS- certified cab.

A new and efficient dust collector with non-stop cleaning decreases the amount of dust emissions to the environment and improves filter life, thereby reducing the need for maintenance.

In addition, all daily maintenance points are located at ground level to simplify service and maintenance procedures and improve safety of service personnel, while a fast fuel-filling option and large fuel tank further reduce downtime.

Sandvik say the new DTH line has benefited from the company’s solid experience in top-hammer drilling solutions, with both product lines sharing many solutions, components and test procedures.
