Stelex complete their largest batching contract

Shropshire-based Stelex Construction Equipment Ltd have completed their biggest concrete site batching project to date at Milford Haven in south-west Wales, where two of the company’s batching plants supplied high-specification concrete mixes for the construction of five liquefied natural gas (LNG) storage tanks, each measuring 100m in diameter x 60m in height. The 30-month contract required a total of 130,000m3 of concrete.

‘For this contract we purchased two new state-of-the-art concrete plants from Elba to ensure the high daily production levels needed,’ said Stelex managing director Richard Evans. ‘During the construction of each tank the slip-forming operation ran continuously with the plants working for 24h over 12 days to maintain the continuous pour of concrete. Approximately 6,500m3 was batched for each tank.’

Stelex’s most recent contract, which has been completed ahead of schedule, involved the supply of over 20,000m3 of high-quality concrete mixes for a runway and a number of taxiways at a major airbase in Scotland. On completion, the plant and equipment was moved on to a new contract at Edinburgh Airport.

As well as the Elba units, Stelex have two Liebherr Mobilmix 2.25 mobile plants, loading shovels and a fleet of truckmixers in order to meet the demands of the civil engineering/construction sectors for a comprehensive batching and site delivery service.
