RockTron recruit to meet international demand

ROCKTRON Ltd have appointed a new chief executive and a new head of cementitious sales in response to what they say has been unprecedented international interest in their fly-ash beneficiation technology.

The company’s breakthrough in beneficiation – transforming coal-fired power station waste (fly ash or PFA) into valuable eco-minerals on an industrial scale with no waste stream – has received interest from energy, manufacturing and environmental industries in countries as far apart as Russia, China, Malaysia, Indonesia and the US.

Newly appointed chief executive Simon Smith, who brings with him a wealth of experience in engineering and business management, said: ‘RockTron are ahead of anyone else in the world with their ability to take what amounts to an extremely abundant waste material, which usually ends up largely in landfill sites, and make it into something valuable. We have the know-how, technology, products and people to give these markets what they have always wanted. The challenge now is to educate the market place and deliver.’

Mr Smith, who is already implementing plans to roll out the company’s new technology on a global scale, has appointed Andy Littler as head of cementitious sales.

Mr Littler is well known in the quarrying industry having held a variety of operational, commercial and director-level roles in the UK aggregates, asphalt, concrete, industrial sand and construction products industries over the past 30 years, working mainly for Hanson and Tarmac. He is also the author of the Institute of Quarrying’s internationally recognized ‘Sand and Gravel Production’ textbook.

Commenting on his appointment, Mr Littler said: ‘RockTron are at the cutting edge of our industry, revolutionizing and redefining the sources and uses of pozzolanic cementitious materials, which offer manufacturers increasing commercial advantages over conventional raw materials. I feel privileged to join such a dynamic new business at such an exciting time.’

RockTron’s new UK plant at Fiddler’s Ferry, near Widnes, in Cheshire, will produce 800,000 tonnes of recycled, eco-minerals every year for the next 20 years.
