Revisions to Quarries Regulations 1999 ACOP

THE Health and Safety Executive (HSE) has issued a consultation document (CD229) setting out proposals to amend its publication ‘Quarries Regulations 1999 Approved Code of Practice’.

In addition to the Quarries Regulations 1999, the ACOP refers to other legislation that covers those people who work in the quarrying industry.

However, due to legislative changes over the years, the HSE says several of these references are now in need of updating, which the revision to the ACOP will address.

The HSE is also proposing to amend four paragraphs of the ACOP to clarify existing guidance and ensure that it is consistent with industry guidance.

The proposed changes are relevant to operators and duty holders responsible for health and safety in quarries, and those people, including contractors, who work in quarries.

Copies of the consultation document can be downloaded from the HSE website.

The closing date for responses is 30 April 2010.
