Regional H&S accolade for Weir Minerals Europe

Weir Minerals EEF Award

Company receives prestigious EEF Future Manufacturing Award for Health and Safety

THE Todmorden head office and manufacturing facility that forms part of Weir Minerals Europe has won a prestigious health and safety award for innovative workplace practices.

The facility received the regional award at this year’s EEF Future Manufacturing Awards for the Health and Safety category, which celebrates good health and safety practice in the workplace.

The panel of judges, made up of business leaders, industry experts and academics, was impressed with the way employee engagement was used to promote a culture of health and safety excellence throughout the company.

Weir Minerals Todmorden will now go forward to compete for the national EEF Future Manufacturing Awards, Health and Safety category, which will be awarded at a gala awards dinner in London in January 2018.

The company, which employs 412 staff at its foundry in Todmorden, manufactures wear-resistant, highly engineered products including Warman slurry pumps, Cavex hydrocyclones and Isogate valves.

Daniel Carr, Weir Minerals’ regional SHE manager, said: ‘The award highlights the team’s hard work and dedication to health and safety excellence. This puts us firmly on the map as an innovative company and highlights the valuable contribution Weir Minerals make towards improving working environments. We are now looking forward to the national finals in January.’

EEF chief executive officer Terry Scuoler CBE added: ‘Boosting health and safety in the workplace leads to significant improvements in employee well-being and operational efficiency – and manufacturers are leading the way.

‘The Weir Minerals Europe Todmorden facility justly deserves this award for the fantastic work that they have done to improve their health and safety culture. We wish them the best of luck for the national finals.’
