THIS year’s British Aggregates Association (BAA) Conference, held at the DoubleTree by Hilton Harrogate Majestic Hotel and Spa on 13 November, proved to be a resounding success, drawing more than 100 industry delegates – a larger turnout than last year’s event.

The one-day conference featured a busy exhibition area and a packed line-up of expert speakers covering a full range of topics, from health and safety best practice and decarbonization strategies to geotechnical awareness for operatives and the latest developments in training and education.

BAA chief executive officer Mike Phillips also used the occasion to formally launch and present the organization’s new strategic health and safety programme, the 5 C's, setting out a clear vision: to create a united, consistent, and competent quarrying industry, where safety leadership is lived, not laminated.

The conference concluded with the announcement of the 2025 BAA Awards winners: Quarry of the YearHullerhill Quarry (Tillicoultry Quarries); Young Industry TalentAmy Mycock (Longcliffe Quarries); and Best Supplier and ContractorsRG Millward Ltd

BAA members and attendees also enjoyed an evening black-tie dinner after the conference. A full report on the 2025 BAA Conference will be published in the January 2026 edition of Quarry Management.
