Regaining glass

Nationwide Recycling Ltd collect and recycle glass throughout Wales. Collections from roadside containers, bottle banks and municipal yards are transported to Nationwide’s dedicated Llandarcy facility.

To turn the glass into an economical and useful by-product the company, on the advice of Tony Llewellyn, a quarry engineer with 40 years’ plant experience, chose a 900-M Rotamill mobile crusher equipped with an integral hopper, belt feeder and extendable stockpiling conveyor.

Unsorted glass bottles and jars (clear, green and brown) are loaded into the hopper and fed to the Rotamill that is set up to produce a –3mm end product. The crushed material then goes through a three-tier screening process to separate labels, bottle tops and other contaminants from the glass fines. With similar properties to sand, the resultant glass fines have found a ready market in a wide range of applications including asphalt production, pipe bedding and as a base material for block paving.
