£1.2 million training fund for Scotland

LAST month Proskills hosted the launch of the £1.2 million Construction Skills Action Plan project for Scotland, which is designed to support training for companies in the building products, extractives and mineral processing, coatings, and glass and glazing industries, within the Scottish Enterprise area.

Professor Stephanie Young, senior director of skills and learning with Scottish Enterprise Glasgow, and Terry Watts, chief executive of Proskills, attend the launch in Glasgow along with around 30 companies and organizations already committed to improving training in their partiucular sector, including Ennstone Thistle, CEMEX, the Quarry Products Association and the British Aggregates Association.

Funded by Scottish Enterprise Glasgow and managed by Proskills, the project will provide Scottish companies in the construction supply chain with access to funding up to a maximum of 50% of their training costs, as well as specialist help in the development of bespoke company training plans, until the end of March 2010.

Commenting on the project, Stephanie Young, said: ‘Scottish Enterprise Glasgow is delighted to support Proskills’ ambitious programme through the Construction Skills Action Plan for the development of their industry. This is a positive step towards increasing the skills levels in Scotland and I look forward to working in partnership with Proskills to help realize their ambitions.’
