Demolition industry champion announces intention to retire at the end of this year

HOWARD Button, chief executive officer of the National Federation of Demolition Contractors (NFDC) and National Demolition Training Group (NDTG), has announced that he will retire in December 2023.

Mr Button has been involved in the demolition industry for 50 years, having been at the helm of Button Demolition and, subsequently, the NFDC and NDTG. As an NFDC member, he swiftly rose through the Federation under the mentorship of another renowned industry champion, Sidney Hunt Snr.

Mr Howard attended his first NFDC National Council meeting as regional chairman in 1990, before going on to hold the office of president from 1996 to 1999. No other individual has ever served as president of the NFDC, IDE, and EDA – a feat that is a testament to Mr Button’s dedication to the demolition industry.

Since he took the role of NFDC CEO, Mr Button has been integral in driving major developments for the industry, including introducing CCDO Smart cards and the development of the NFDC accredited site audit scheme – seen as a mark of quality throughout the construction industry to this day.
