New Volvo FMX tippers for H Sivyer Transport

Volvo FMX tippers

Recycled aggregates firm strengthens its haulage fleet with addition of nine FMX-420 8x4 trucks

H SIVYER Transport have recently taken delivery of nine Volvo FMX-420, X-High (N3G) tippers, representing the first part of their 25-strong fleet order with Croydon-based Volvo Truck and Bus Centre London.

Simon Sivyer, managing director, said: ‘Each year, we collect and recycle nearly one million tonnes of construction waste from London and the Home Counties. We also produce around 400,000 tonnes of aggregates from waste.

‘When placing this order I needed trucks that offered good off-road capabilities, were robust and, frankly, looked right as construction tippers. The Volvo FMX is, in my opinion, pound-for-pound over a period of time, the best tipper on the market.’

The FMX-420 8x4 tippers are powered by a 12.8-litre Volvo D13k engine (420hp) which produces up to 2,100Nm of torque. All the trucks are equipped with I-Shift transmissions, Day cabs, Alcoa Durabrite aluminium wheels and on-board weighing systems.

Mr Sivyer added: ‘We also specified the lightest possible tipping gear from Edbro and are using lightweight single skin Taperlite steel bodies from Boweld, who handled the Whole Vehicle Type Approvals. Weight saving has been the name of the game and we’ve managed to get the net weight down to 12.3 tonnes, which gives us a payload of 19.8 tonnes.’

As a Gold FORS-registered operator, H Sivyer are also trialling a new low-level nearside window to enhance cycle safety. ‘The Volvo FMX is well designed, reliable and holds good residual value,’ said Mr Sivyer. ‘I am convinced the FMX is the most appropriate truck for our needs.’
