TS52 radial telescopic conveyor handles aggregates from self-discharge vessels at more than 2,500 tonnes/h

TELESTACK, a global leader in the manufacturing of bulk material handling equipment, have announced the successful supply, installation, and commissioning of a Telestack TS52 radial telescopic stockpiling conveyor for Mibau Stema UK. A strategic collaboration, facilitated by Telestack’s UK ports partner, Cooper Specialised Handling, has provided this key player in the European aggregates and shipping sector with an efficient and flexible material handling solution.

Mibau Stema play a crucial role in the supply of Norwegian aggregates for various applications including the asphalt, concrete, and construction industries. With annual production exceeding 20 million tonnes, the company efficiently delivers aggregate materials to terminals located around the North Sea and Baltic regions, utilizing a fleet of self-discharging vessels to ensure swift and seamless supply from quarry to customer.

The Telestack TS52 radial telescopic conveyor is deployed at Mibau Stema’s Sheerness Port terminal in UK, where the high-specification unit significantly enhances the efficient transfer and stockpiling of high volumes of aggregate directly from the self-discharging vessels, seamlessly integrating with their discharge process and operation.

According to Telestack, the TS52 conveyor offers a versatile and cost-effective alternative to more traditional port stockpiling methods when handling material from self-discharge vessels. They say it would take several wheel loaders, excavators etc working simultaneously to match the high tonnes/h capability of the conveyor, thereby adding significant costs to the process, not to mention increased safety concerns with multiple traffic movements in the discharge area.

The TS 52 features a 52m (170ft) long conveyor that can achieve outputs in excess of 2,500 tonnes/h via its 1,400mm (55in) wide belt. The unit can discharge material at a height of up to 18m (60ft) and allows more than 100,000 tonnes of aggregates to be stockpiled from a single position. The unit’s radial and telescopic features also allow for the separation of different grades of materials into individual storage bays as required.

The system also includes variable-speed control (VSD) for flexibility in the operation, along with dual access walkways for maintenance, lights for night-time operation, radio remote control of all functions, and a specialized 250-micron marine grade paint finish for operation in the corrosive port environment.

Telestack international sales manager Carl Donnelly commented: ‘We are incredibly proud to see the Telestack TS52 radial telescopic conveyor successfully commissioned at Mibau Stema’s Sheerness terminal. This project truly exemplifies the power of collaboration, working closely with our esteemed UK ports partner, Cooper Specialised Handling, to deliver a highly effective solution for a key player in the UK/European aggregates sector.

‘The TS52 is a perfect fit for Mibau Stema’s high-volume operations, offering the flexibility and efficiency they need to seamlessly integrate with their self-discharging vessels. The ability of our units to handle more than 2,500 tonnes/h on a consistent basis is testament to our design, manufacturing, quality, and installation/commissioning teams. It’s fantastic to witness our conveyor technology providing such a significant impact on Mibau Stema’s productivity and operational flow. We look forward to seeing them reap the benefits of this investment for years to come.’

Chris Barnes, sales director at Cooper Specialised Handling, added: ‘This is a landmark supply for our business, both in scale and in customer significance. Mibau Stema are a highly respected name in the industry, known for their operational excellence and high-volume throughput. Being selected to support their UK operations with a Telestack solution is a strong endorsement of our technical capability and our ongoing commitment to delivering engineered solutions for the bulk handling sector.’

Martin Johansen, managing director of Mibau Stema UK, remarked: ‘We are very happy to have worked with Telestack and Cooper Specialised Handling on this high-capacity system for use with our self-discharge vessels. As reliable operation of this system is critical to our business, we had to ensure we had a proven and robust design, which is what we have received from Telestack/Cooper.’

Telestack say this installation – their second for Mibau Stema – further reinforces their commitment to providing innovative, reliable, and high-performance dry bulk material handling solutions to global customers, with the aim of improving their material handling processes by reducing their costs per tonne, ensuring flexibility for the entire operation, and future proofing the system for changing trends moving forward.
