New screen for Local Asphalt Liverpool

Vibratory hot asphalt screen

North Dean Engineering supply 4.0m x 1.5m double-deck vibrating hot screen to asphalt suppliers

LOCAL Asphalt Liverpool, part of CEMEX UK Materials, have taken delivery of a new vibratory hot screen for their plant in Huyton from Halifax-based North Dean Engineering. The screen change came after the centre shaft of the existing screen developed problems and severe cracking appeared in its side plates on the non-drive side.

Local Asphalt Liverpool approached preferred suppliers North Dean Engineering for a long-term solution to safeguard product sales and reduce downtime at the site. The plant at Huyton produces around 36,000 tonnes of asphalt a year, which is primarily supplied to local markets.

North Dean Engineering designed, manufactured and installed a new 4.0m x 1.5m double-deck vibrating hot screen which has been fitted with a precision-engineered shaft assembly for greater efficiency and reliability. This is important for hot screen applications where temperatures can reach 220°C, and is also particularly beneficial when working with recycled material.

The replacement screen was also designed to match the existing footprint of the old unit, reducing on-site disruption and eliminating any costly modification to the existing feed, discharge and collection arrangements. Moreover, installation was completed in two days resulting minimal disruption to normal production.

Site manager Frank Kehoe said: ‘We chose North Dean Engineering to supply the new screen following internal discussions within the CEMEX group. It seems that they have an increasing presence in the industry and knowing that you are dealing direct with the manufacturer cuts out any middle man.’
