Multiple awards for Dickerson Group companies

M DICKERSON Ltd of Waterbeach, Cambridgeshire, and Frimstone Ltd, of Crimplesham, Norfolk, the aggregate companies within the Dickerson Group of companies and the largest suppliers of recycled aggregates in East Anglia, have recently been awarded four certificates from BSI Management Systems.

The awards are in recognition of successful assessments to the management system standards of Quality Management (ISO 9001), Environmental Management (ISO 14001), Health and Safety Management (BS OHSAS 18001) and Integrated Management System (PAS 99), in the production of primary and recycled aggregates, inert tipping, plant hire and vehicle maintenance.

At an informal ceremony at Frimstone’s offices in Crimplesham, near Downham Market, in Norfolk, Mark Stokes, team manager at BSI Management Systems, presented Mark Davenport and Gary Bell, directors of the two companies, with framed certificates.

M Dickerson recently celebrated the start of a major contract to recycle all of Network Rail’s old railway ballast from East Anglia at their site in March, Cambridgeshire. A condition of the contract was gaining certification in these fields as soon as possible.

Both Frimstone, a Royal Warrant-holding company, and M Dickerson planned for their recycled products to meet the requirements of the WRAP Quality Protocol, a task they have achieved with the help of the management systems.

Gary Bell, managing director, said: ‘We are very proud that both companies have received these four certificates. This is part of our ongoing commitment to provide a value-added service to all our customers. Every part of our operation and service was scrutinized during BSI’s assessments, and although it was a requirement of our contract with Network Rail, certification is something we would have gone for independently, because more of our customers are asking us to provide evidence of quality assurance in these areas.’

M Dickerson and Frimstone Ltd are both small to medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) employing fewer than 250 people, and as such gaining certification from BSI in all four areas at the same time required a considerable amount of staff input and the use of an interim manager from Wiser Environmental Information Systems of St. Ives, Cambridgeshire, whose time was purchased using a grant from WRAP.

‘Although it was a lot of intensive work for a core team of staff working to get certification, supported by all our operational staff, the award is well worth the effort since all our existing customers, and potential new ones, know that the services M Dickerson and Frimstone provide meet the highest standards set out by BSI. But this is not the end of the process; maintaining accreditation means we needed to put in place strategies to continuously improve our services to customers, and this we will strive to do,’ added Mr Bell.
