MPA provides further Vision Zero resources

MPA Vision Zero

Mineral Products Association adds further resources to support industry engagement with Vision Zero

AN Employee Guide to Vision Zero, a pocket card, and three new Vision Zero PowerPoint presentations have been added to the MPA toolkit of resources available to help members promote Vision Zero within their organizations.

Vision Zero was launched at the MPA and British Precast Health and Safety Leadership Conference in November 2020. The success of Vision Zero will be dependent on individuals within the mineral products industry understanding what Vision Zero is, why it is important and their role in delivering it.

At the heart of Vision Zero is the commitment to adopt the six core health and safety values and to work together to eliminate or mitigate the high-consequence hazards associated with ‘The Fatal 6’.

The MPA resources have been designed to help raise awareness and understanding across the industry of the six core values, ‘The Fatal 6’, the strategy to help implement them, and the new leading and lagging indicators that will be used to measure progress.

Chris Leese, director of MPA UK Concrete and special advisor on health and safety, said: ‘Vision Zero was developed by the senior managers, owners and H&S experts within our membership. They have recognized that changing behaviour and focusing on those activities that are most likely to kill or seriously injure us at work will be essential to achieve a further step change in our health and safety performance.

‘The MPA’s role is to support our members in delivering Vision Zero and measuring our progress over the next five years. These resources will help our members to raise awareness of all aspects of Vision Zero at every level within their organization. Please use them and share with your colleagues.’

The suite of resources is accessible via the Safequarry and Safeprecast websites. They complement each other and reinforce the key messages, and can be used either as an integrated pack or individually, depending on the user’s requirement and their audience.

The suite includes:

Videos
Videos that can be viewed via the MPA channel on YouTube. A copy of the video file for members can be provided on request for use on their intranets if access via YouTube or internet access is an issue.

Printed or online

PowerPoints
Three PowerPoints have been produced which include notes to assist the presenter. The PowerPoints could be used as a toolbox talk, management update or with any audience for whom you wish to raise awareness and understanding of Vision Zero.

The notes have been designed to help the presenter to facilitate interaction and to encourage the audience to think about how Vision Zero might apply in their work environment. The PowerPoints can be amended or rebranded to meet the specific needs of the presenter.

To access the three PowerPoints – which summarize Vision Zero, focus on the Core H&S Values in Vision Zero and focus on ‘The Fatal 6’ in Vision Zero – visit www.safequarry.com or www.safeprecast.com
