MPA appoints new chairman

Dyfrig James takes over as chairman of the Mineral Products Association for the next two years

DYFRIG James, regional president for Northern and Central Europe for Lafarge’s Aggregates, Concrete and Pave business, has been appointed as Mineral Products Association (MPA) chairman for the next two years.

He will be the MPA’s third chairman, taking over from Patrick O’Shea, whose positive contribution to the Association’s development over the last two years has been recognized and greatly appreciated by MPA members.

Paying tribute to Mr O’Shea’s work throughout his term, Nigel Jackson, chief executive of the MPA, said: ‘Positive feedback about Patrick has been received from members from all around the country. Members have appreciated the effort he made to attend so many regional and other MPA events and listen to their points of view and concerns.

‘He has demonstrated, admirably, how it is possible to take the wider industry view within the MPA for the good of all companies and the sector. The MPA would like to thank Patrick for his contribution to the Association’s development over the last two years and wish Dyfrig every success for his two-year tenure.’

As well as being a regional president for Lafarge, Dyfrig James is also chairman of Lafarge Aggregates & Concrete Ltd in the UK and a member of Lafarge’s Aggregate and Concrete Global Executive Committee.

Mr James is also a Chartered Geologist and Fellow of the Geological Society; a Companion of the Chartered Management Institute; and a Fellow of the Institute of Directors and Institute of Welsh Affairs. His other roles include acting as vice-president of the Institute of Quarrying as well as being a member of the CBI Construction Council.

Commenting on his appointment, Mr James said: ‘I am proud to take over the role of MPA chairman from Patrick and am keen to contribute as fully as I can to the Association and its activities over the next two years. I am passionate about continuing to improving health and safety standards across our industry and am also a passionate believer in the construction industry playing an active and leading part in a sustainable world.’
